Officially a boat owner!

I finished my sailing classes a couple weeks ago. I had such a blast and learned so much. Shortly after sailing school finished I really wanted to buy a little sailboat.

Tom was running errands when a pretty yellow sailboat caught his eye. He said “there’s a boat you’ve got to see”.

I absolutely loved it. You could tell it’s been loved and well taken care of. We asked if it was still available and they said someone was doing a payment plan on it. They were supposed to finish paying it off in a couple weeks, but said if it was still here to come back.

Tom and I looked at a bunch of other little sailboats for sale all over Kilmarnock, Irvington and Deltaville. None of them were as beautiful as the yellow one we saw.

I waited and the boat was still there so we drove over again. I asked how much they wanted, paid for it in cash and towed it back to Tom’s house.

It’s a 1979 Macgregor Venture 23. I love the bright yellow hull and the bowsprit. I think it has great lines and I love its vintage looks. It is apparently a modern day replica of the 1800’s pilot cutters. I thought that was neat.

I’ve been working hard on getting her ready to put in the water.

We took all the brightwork off. I cleaned, brightened, scrubbed and sanded it. It looks so beautiful already. I can’t wait to varnish it with Cetol. I’m also going to add faux teak on the deck from Plasdeck to give it a classy look. I love the look of teak.

She is going to be a show stopper once I’m finished. I’m very happy with my purchase and can’t wait to take her for a sail. I’m excited she’s trailerable and I can easily tow her with my SUV. Im going to bring her everywhere and it will be fun to sail her back in Utah and Alaska as well. I’ll keep ya’ll posted on her progress.
