Sailing Camp

I started sailing camp this weekend at Indian Creek Yacht Club. Tom is a member there and signed me up. He is so awesome. I was kind of nervous the day before I started class. I stayed up late studying my sailing books and watched sailing YouTube videos. I’ve traveled over 2000 miles on a sailboat, but I still have SO MUCH to learn. Especially when it comes to sailing lingo, etc. I was also nervous about sailing in a small boat.

Class started yesterday. Everyone in the group was so nice and the instructors are great. We started learning the basics of sailing, different terms like tacking, jibing. Once we finished our classroom setting we got to go out in the water.

On day one the wind was about 5-10 knots, it was the perfect time to sail. My group I was in had so much fun. We practiced everything we learned in class. We worked with the jib and main sail. It was cool working with the sails, I always made Tom do that on his boat while I was at the helm. Learning how to use a tiller instead of a wheel wasn’t as bad as I thought. I had a great experience.

We had class again today. We went out for a nice afternoon sail. There wasn’t quite enough wind today, but we still had a good day out on the water. I’m excited to go sailing again next weekend and learn more.

Way to Go! I’m sure impressed. Keep that attitude that you can always learn more, and you will do just fine.

So glad you are taking the course. Now you can you relate your trip to what you are learning. Of course most people do those in the opposite order!

Thanks Anne I’m having a lot of fun! So true! Haha! I definitely wish I would have taken the course first, I had to learn a lot of things the hard way. 😂
