Pungo River NC to Broad Creek NC

We left our anchorage this morning at 6:30. It was frigid. I was fully bundled in clothing I normally wear in -15 degree weather in Utah. We traveled down the Alligator River Canal. We continued onto the alligator River. We got passed by all of our buddies we’ve been following since Charleston. They pass us every single day, we always recognize their boat names. There’s about seven boats that have been in the parade of boats headed north.

We crossed the Albemarle sound. It was surprisingly calm despite the strange weather. Tom was worried there were going to be thunderstorms, but I reassured him that the storm got downgraded to rain. It was just cold and cloudy. I double checked the weather quite a few times before crossing the sound.

We were hoping to get into the Coinjock marina and eat prime rib, but it was booked solid. I wasn’t surprised. We anchored at the broad creek anchorage a few miles south of Coinjock. We traveled 66 miles and averaged 6-7 knots.

I made ramen with poached eggs for dinner. It just recently started storming outside and the boat is rocking and rolling. I was paranoid about going too far into the creek with how deep the draft is on the boat. We probably don’t have the best wind protection, but the anchor is hooked. The storm should only last a couple hours. We are headed to Norfolk Virginia tomorrow. We are 61 miles from mile marker 0.

Beautiful pictures! It is amazing the changes in weather on the coast. Stay warm and bring it home. We are waiting. Love,
