To a wonderful woman

It’s been one year since Joanne passed away. She was the best mother in law anyone could ask for. She was hilarious, witty and so fun to be around. We were all shocked when she passed. None of us were expecting it.

She is deeply missed. I will never forget our fun times we’ve shared. There are so many amazing memories from collecting seashells in Vero beach to exploring New York City. She was so much fun. It feels like just yesterday.

I think Joanne would be proud of Tom and I on this trip. She has also probably laughed her butt off a couple times watching us from Heaven. I picture her and Tom on this trip and what it was like. She has a journal of this exact trip they did back in 2006. I can’t wait to read it again. I will know exactly the locations they stayed and where they went.

Tom and I tried getting a rental car we reserved for today to head back to Kilmarnock. That didn’t work the way we planned out because Enterprise is a bunch of morons. It’s Saturday and we couldn’t get a rental car anywhere. I was so mad. We took an Uber all the way to Enterprise with all of our bags only for them to be incompetent and extremely unhelpful.

We didn’t have much options, besides flying and that would cost an arm and a leg. Rich saved the day and is driving down to pick us up in St Augustine. He will be here tonight at 10 pm. Bless his heart. I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful, supportive husband. He will do anything for his family. He is bringing Nobu and Juneau. Our wonderful neighbors Bob and Dawn are watching Rousseau and Paisley.

I spent the afternoon tidying up my cabin and getting Rich’s berth ready for tonight. Tom and I walked the boat further up the dock after a catamaran pulled out. It ended up being a full ordeal. The current was swiftly moving and I lost the stern. I was putting all my strength to keep the 40,000 pound Voyager from being swept down the river. I started yelling “Tom I’m losing the stern! TOM! HELP!”

People from other boats came rushing to help. An Australian man helped big time. He hoisted me onto the bow and I started to throw lines to them. Tom had to jump up and help me with the winch. I didn’t even know what the heck a winch was until today. They used it to slowly bring the stern back. At the end of the ordeal there were about 6 or 7 different boaters that helped us. I’ve learned that boaters are always trying to help other boaters out.

Tom and I relaxed for a little bit and then took our bikes around to tour St Augustine. It is such a beautiful city and I want to come back sometime. For dinner we biked over to the St Augustine Fish Camp. We had alligator bites, crispy calamari, clam chowder, Greek salad and a fish sandwich. Everything was delicious and I was excited to try alligator. It tasted delicious. Kind of like chicken.

We are excited to go home tomorrow. I can’t wait to see Rich and the dogs.
