Port Royal, South Carolina

We left our anchorage this morning around 7 am. Tom hurt his ankle pulling up the anchor and didn’t sleep well. The air was frigid today. It’s the first time so far on this trip that I needed to wear a beanie and long johns. I bundled Paisley up again in my blanket, she was shaking like a leaf. I called Rich and told him to buy Paisley a sweater from petco when he comes down to visit for thanksgiving.

It was quite windy today. It was pretty choppy in the sound we crossed. Paisley almost fell overboard when she went outside to go potty on the bow. I shrieked in terror and Tom was freaked out too. Thankfully one of the fenders saved her from falling in.

We decided to stay at a marina in Beaufort, South Carolina. We weren’t sure we were going to have enough daylight to go all the way to Hilton head. I called a couple marinas and most of them were booked for our size boat. I was able to make a reservation at Safe Harbor Port Royal marina.

We met a lovely couple that docked behind us. One of our fenders blew overboard and they tried their best to save it. We went over to their boat to hang out for a little bit while they all had drinks. Their boat is named hound dog and I think that is such a cute name. They were so fun to talk to and I hope to run into them again sometime.

As we were walking up to the marina restaurant for dinner we saw a bunch of dolphins swimming under the dock. We think that one of them was pregnant because she was huge. Seeing dolphins always makes my day.

We sat with our new friends at dinner. I ordered blackened fish tacos. All the seafood I’ve tried on this trip so far has been wonderful. It was a really good day. Tomorrow we are going to provision the boat and head about 40-50 miles south.

GEAR UP!!! you will be entering Georgia waters soon and Captain Tom had a run-in with a us navy submarine on the last trip and think they have been waiting for his return to stick a torpedo up his stern. will be up to you to keep him away from the nuclear subs as you near south georgia. until then enjoy south carolina, its islands and low country seafood.
