Beautiful South Carolina Sailing

Woke up at 6:15 today. There was a gorgeous sunrise this morning. Tom pulled the anchor up. It was pretty chilly this morning, around 43 degrees. Paisley was freezing to death and I wrapped her in one of my hoodies to keep her warm.

We passed through isle of palms and it was really pretty. There were a lot of wonderful homes. The sun was shining and it was a nice day.

We saw a ton of dolphins on our way to the Charleston bay. The current was working against us today and it was pretty choppy. There were a lot of beautiful ships in the bay today. One of them looked like a pirate ship.

It was really cool passing through Charleston. It looked like a really fun place to visit. If we had more time, it would be nice to stay there for a couple days.

After going through Charleston we had to go through a swing bridge and a bascule bridge. The waterway guides were inaccurate and we had to wait about an hour at each of them. It killed our 60 miles a day goal. After we went through the bascule bridge we had to go through this little canal. The current was so bad we were only going 1-2 knots. Tom said in all his years of sailing he’s never experience a current this vicious.

The current was pretty bad today and worked against us for the majority of the day. We still managed to do 54 miles today. Church Creek Anchorage is where we decided to stop for the night. It’s beautiful. We enjoyed another lovely sunset. I made chili and rice for dinner. We are hoping to get to Hilton Head tomorrow, but it all depends on how it goes with the swing bridge and the currents.

Charleston is our favorite city and have spent a lot of time there over the years. Great history, beaches, restaurants, homes, people. Sounds like a day which was free of disasters, lucky Captain Tom has you aboard or he would be half way to Bermuda by now, a place to which he has always wanted to sail. Stay safe and hungry mates!!
