Sailing Through North Carolina

Woke up at 6:30 am this morning. I got some much needed sleep last night and went to bed super early. We crossed the Albemarle Sound. We picked the perfect day to cross. I read in the waterway guide that Albemarle can get choppy sometimes.

Albemarle Sound

It was very warm and sunny today. There were lots of sail boats heading south today. After crossing the sound we went through the Pungo river canal. The canal was very narrow. We saw a lot of cool birds. I saw an alligator stick its head out of the water, open its mouth and then go back underwater. I was amazed! I wish I had time to get a picture.

We sailed about 60 miles today. We got into the Pungo River anchorage around 5 pm, just as the sun started setting. We dropped the anchor and watched a pretty sunset. I made chili dogs for dinner tonight. We are planning on staying at a Marina in Oriental, North Carolina tomorrow.
