Oriental NC to Swansboro NC

We slept in today. Tom woke me up around 7:30 am. He made breakfast for us. A poached egg on an English muffin. It was nice having a sit down breakfast this morning. I took Paisley for a walk while Tom did some tidying on the boat. I walked around the docks to look at the other boats. One of the boats was named “Assisted Living” and I died laughing. That is officially the best name for a boat I’ve seen yet. Tom and I had a good laugh about it.

We spent a couple hours getting stocked up on water and cleaning the deck. I scrubbed it with soap and water and sprayed it off. It looks a lot better, especially after that muddy anchor the night before. We took the motor off of the Dinghy we’ve been dragging behind us. There’s a ton of water in the dinghy and it’s been making us go about 1-2 knots slower than we should. We left at 11:30 am. We planned to do about 20 miles today.

It was a little choppy when we first left. We saw a beautiful sail boat with all of its sails up. We saw a lot of shrimp boats and sport fishermen. We also saw quite a few wrecked boats from hurricanes.

My favorite part of the day was seeing dolphins. There were a ton of them. I was so excited. They are such beautiful creatures and I love them. I couldn’t believe how many there were. One of them breached for a brief moment.

Beaufort and Morehead City is where it started getting a little crazy. There were tons of boats everywhere coming from every angle. It was literally like a freeway on the water with the amount of boats out there. Mostly fishing boats and sport fishers. We were going to originally stop in Morehead City, but Tom wanted to keep going. We proceeded to the Bogue Sound.

I kept checking anchorages and the last ones that were deep enough for the ship were in Morehead City. Voyager II draws about 5.5 feet of water because she has such a big keel. The bogue sound was sketchy. Literally most spots were 2-3 feet deep and we would have definitely run aground outside of the channel. Tom didn’t realize we couldn’t anchor anywhere in the Bogue sound so we had to go all the way to Swansboro.

My gps on my phone had us getting in at 6:30pm. I was nervous to travel at night, but we didn’t have a choice. When it got dark it was hard figuring out where the anchorage was and Tom’s gps wouldn’t change to night mode. Tom almost ran aground in front of a wedding reception when we were entering swansboro. We just hit the bottom for a second and continued on.

We got in around 7pm. I am absolutely exhausted and can’t wait to go to bed. We had leftover clam linguini for dinner. We were too tired to heat it up so we ate it cold. I don’t know where we are going tomorrow, but we will figure it out in the morning.
